I’ve had this written in my recipe book for years, so have no idea where it comes from but its tried & tested!
1 cup plain flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
2 Tablespoons oil (Sunflower, Olive, Coconut)
2 Tablespoons cream of tartar
Put all ingredients (except the food coloring) in a saucepan & add water. Mix together over slow heat.
Keep stirring until the water is gone & becomes stiff. It will start lifting in the pot & not sticking to the sides. It gets really hard to mix.
Turn out onto wax paper & allow to cool.
Knead dough & break into smaller balls depending on how many colours you want.
Add food colouring & knead together. I use the dough mixer for this after trying to do it by hand the 1st time & staining my hands green for 2 days!
Store in an airtight container. Should last a few weeks. Throw out if you notice any discolouration or mould developing.
